Dragonfly Cottage combines the charm of yesteryear with the amenities and conveniences of today, in a fabulous setting on Peninsula Lake only ten minutes from the town of Huntsville. This beautiful cottage is full of character, while at the same time care has been taken to provide all that is needed for a comfortable and delightful stay.
As you enter the property down a private drive, you will find ample parking for your entire entourage. The storage shed in the parking area has a second refrigerator to store extra food and pop, and ample room for your golf clubs and other toys. A few granite steps lead down from the parking area to a private, stone patio. Here, a table and chairs offer a serene place to catch the southern sun, enjoy the surrounding forest and if you listen carefully you can hear the bubbling spring-fed creek which runs through the property.
A gas barbeque is provided for your outdoor grilling enjoyment. The screened, back door leads from the stone patio past a utility room with washer and dryer into a bright, well-equipped kitchen with interesting decor and ample counter space.
The kitchen is open to the large dining area with seating for eight. Windows extend along the walls of the dining and kitchen areas and provide wonderful lake, yard and garden views to the front and sides of the cottage. On this level, there is a choice of living areas. Comfortable furniture can be found in the adjoining living room and a glassed-in Muskoka porch that fronts the cottage has an unobstructed view of the lake with a variety of seating options. A table and six chairs are at one end of the porch which has become a favorite spot to share a meal and take advantage of the expansive beautiful views of Peninsula Lake. If desired, the screened windows may be opened to the cooling breezes.
There is one bedroom with a queen bed and one four-piece bathroom on this main level as well. Attic-type stairs with locking gate lead to the unique, upper level of the cottage, where there are two bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other with two twin beds. The upper level is designed for children and is not recommended for adults. This level of the cottage is not suitable for seniors or for very young children because of the steepness of the stairs. Windows with character open downward and can be latched open. Another, more gentle set of stairs leads from the main floor to the lower level which walks out to the lake. Here, another large living area has windows facing the lake.
A desk provides a place to hook up to the high-speed internet or you may use the wireless that is available throughout the cottage. There is a comfortable couch and chairs located near the Monitor/DVD player. A table and chairs on this level provide a place to play board games or do craft projects. On this level are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with 2 twin beds. A three-piece bathroom on this level and closet by the desk for hanging clothes complete this comfortable living space. A sliding glass door on this lower level opens up to a grassed yard facing the lake with lovely twig lawn furniture and a well-kept fire pit near water’s edge. The slope of this yard is very gentle with a stone path leading you to the beach, dock or across the creek by bridge to the sleeping cabin.
This bedroom has a large queen bed and offers a unique private porch overhanging the lake. This may be perfect for teens or the young at heart! (No bathroom - must use main cottage).
The shoreline is dotted with wildflowers, pines and stabilized with beautiful Ontario granite. A perfect entrance into the refreshing water is by the shallow, soft, sandy beach. The sturdy, large dock extends out from the shore to where the water is four to five feet deep. There is ample space to dock your boat, should one be rented from nearby Deerhurst Resort, Huntsville Marine on Fairy Lake or Mary Lake Marina on Mary Lake. There is a community walking trail that goes through the cottage property along the shoreline.
Boat launching is available across the lake at Tally Ho Resort. Peninsula Lake is part of a 40-mile chain of lakes, canals and rivers that includes access to the town of Huntsville. By canal (small river) you can boat to Fairy Lake and through the river to Huntsville and on to Lake Vernon. Going away from Huntsville you can also travel down the Muskoka River and through the historic Huntsville Brunel Locks that lead to Mary Lake and Port Sydney. Dragonfly cottage is within a five minute drive to Deerhurst Resort for golf, dining and other activities, ten minutes to four other golf courses and ten minutes to the town of Huntsville which offers fine dining, quaint shops, grocery stores, hospital, the Pioneer Village, movie theatre and live theatre.
Famous Algonquin Provincial Park is less than a thirty-minute drive and Arrowhead Provincial Park is fifteen minutes away. A stay at Dragonfly Cottage will be one filled with activity for those who choose it, or a time for relaxing and unwinding in the peaceful setting if that is preferred. Come and enjoy!
