The open concept kitchen/dining/living room, with warm pine walls and a soaring cathedral ceiling, look out onto the lake through a wall of large picture windows. Step from here through the sliding glass doors out onto the deck that is a stone’s throw away from the water. Enjoy your early morning coffee here as the sun streams through the trees and the haunting call of the loons welcome the day.

One bedroom and bathroom round out the main level while two private bedrooms are on the upper level with a loft sitting area joining the two, allowing for tree top views of the lake from anywhere on this level.

This cottage waterfront is ideal for a young family with toddlers as the lake is shallow for more than 100 ft. from the shore. On warm, sunny afternoons the water at the shore reaches bathwater warm temperatures and the young ones can easily sit on the lake bottom with its hard packed sand and play for hours on end.

An interesting fact about Lake Bernard is that it is the largest freshwater lake in the world without an island. Part of the charm of Lake Bernard is also its more peaceful, less developed nature, 50 km removed from the hubbub of the busy Muskokas. Fishing enthusiasts can bring your own boat and find a good supply of game fish, including large lake trout in the deeper, colder parts of the lake.

Water walk out to the raft for an early morning dip in the warm clear lake and spend lazy afternoons reading or napping in the lakeside hammock. End your days with a BBQ dinner at the waterfront picnic table while enjoying the steady breeze from off the lake that softens the heat of the day. 

Watch the moonrise from the first point of brightness above the hills across the lake to the lengthening moonwake that lights the cottage. When the sky becomes emblazoned with stars, it will be abundantly clear that you are far from the hectic pace of the city!
