Private Beachfront Estate on Pink-Sand Poponi Beach, Walk to Two Restaurants

Poponi House is an elegant beach estate built by Hon. Edward Brabazon Meade in the early 1940’s. Meade was the son of the 4th Earl of Clanwilliam, admiral of the British fleet and advisor to Queen Victoria. The Meade family were direct descendants of William the Conqueror.

Poponi is a two-acre beachfront estate located on the beach that was named after it, the mile-long, pink-sand Poponi Beach. Poponi was picked by Caribbean Travel & Life as one of the 20 best beaches in the Caribbean. The house is 50 paces from the beach, set among beautiful grounds landscaped with palms and flowering trees. There is great snorkeling off of our beach! Two beachfront restaurant/bars are walking distance down the beach: Unique Village, 10 minutes, and La Bougainvillea 15 minutes.

Poponi House offers expansive views of the Atlantic from both bedrooms, which are located at the front of the house. The master bedroom, with en-suite bathroom and king-size bed, has French doors that open onto a porch with ocean breezes. The second bedroom has the same incredible views and access to the screened porch that runs along the south side of the house. The second bedroom has twin beds that can be converted into a comfortable king size bed. The bath for this bedroom is located right across the hall from it. There is also an outdoor shower at Poponi for guests who prefer showering “en plein air” in such a private setting.

Poponi has two living areas - the first has a beautiful wooden tray ceiling with fans and comfortable furniture. The cable TV, DVD, video library, chromecast etc. are located in this room. It has doors leading to the screened porch. The second living area offers ocean views and breezes, beautiful natural lighting, comfortable seating, and doors out onto the screened porch. There is also a dining table for six.

The kitchen is fully equipped with new stainless steel gas range, two refrigerators, dishwasher, microwave, and views of the great banyan tree in the backyard. It has a door leading out to the bougainvillea covered trellis with dining table beneath and small courtyard with a gas grill. The screened porch on the south side of Poponi offers spectacular views and peaceful breezes of the Atlantic. There is a furnished cabana down by the beach which provides shade and privacy.

Poponi has many amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Amenities include air conditioning in one living room and both bedrooms (the guest bedroom has a portable AC unit that can be used when needed), WiFi, TV, cable, DVD, stereo system, board games, beach chairs and hammocks by the beach and under the Banyan tree.

For larger groups, there is a studio cottage a short walk from the house which can be included for $175 per night.

Poponi house is centrally located near the settlement of North Palmetto Point which has several grocery shops, pharmacy and restaurants. The historic town of Governor's Harbour, the main town on the island, is a ten minute drive from the property. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, banks with ATM’s, gift shops, liquor stores, dive shop, bakery, and half a dozen excellent restaurants. One or another of the restaurants/bars will have live music almost every night of the week. You can also buy the fresh catch of the day to grill at home from the town dock.
