About this space

El Zapato (it looks like a shoe) is brand new, designed by whimsical architect Jeff Shelton. On the first level there are 2 colorful "Lobster Studios (Bedrooms) " and a large ADA bath - facing a quiet private courtyard for your use. Very safe and tranquil-its own private sanctuary inside the gated courtyard. Walk everywhere: 3 blocks to State, 4 to beach, 1 to Farmer's Market. Secure parking too! The Green Cabana above is a one bedroom apartment with Queen bedrom and bath and gourmet kitchen, outside deck. The Turquoise Penthouse on the thrid floor has a master bedoom three full baths , rooftop panormaic deck and living space and huge living room dining room and another gourmet kitchen.

The space

Two "Lobster Studios" are adorned with with lobster tiles designed by Jeff Shelton and the original collection of all 1950-60s paint by number lighthouses of Maine- quite a kitchy, unique look you won't find anywhere else. All beds throughout the house are comfortable new and firm foam type mattresses. Excellent wifi throughout/Secure free parking. The space includes the entire private courtyard and garage area for your bikes etc. There are 4 total TVs. Both Lobster Studios also have sinks and they share a very large ADA bathroom off the courtyard ( which is very private and all yours). You can enter the entire space from a coded gate on the street. The views form all levels of the home are unparalelled in Santa Barbara....

Guest access

The Penthouse and Green Cabana are enterd by the front door and a whimsical staircase from the entry hall. The Lobster Studios on the first floor can be enterd this way too or they can be entered from the courtyard. Ideal for a familys or large friend groups.  The large open air courtyard is available for outdoor lounging and picnicking and games. The Courtyard is great for projecting movies on the back wall or just reading and relaxing in the outdoors yet very close to downtown.

Interaction with guests

Host always available if not on site, by text or phone to answer questions and help with your visit. Property manager available too.

Other things to note

For the Lobster Studios ( two downstairs bedrooms) be aware that you have a large bathroom with shower but it is accessed by the private courtyard you will share ONLY with the other bedroom. Each room had its own sink and there is a sink in the bathroom too but you do step outside into the private courtyard to access the bath and toilet. This is rarely a problem in Santa Barbara as it doesn't rain and the bathroom is literally 3 feet in a covered alcove from one of the studios. The website has a virtual tour which you can see if you book to better understand the layout of this unique house. Three floors of whimsy.....

About Carla Lejade

Santa Barbara Vacation Home by Carla Lejade You may have noticed that EL Zapato is covered with whimsical characters that are happy Maine lobsters! Whenever the architect, Jeff Shelton, designs a building for a client he often makes a unique new tile that is the owners request- in this case I requested a Maine lobster because I'm from Maine. I grew up going to Maine every summer to see my grandfather on the New Meadows river near Bath and Brunswick. All of my family lives there and my great grandfather had a farm still partially owned by family. I love Maine and you will notice there are touches of Maine throughout the house -notably the paint by number collection of Maine lighthouses that decorate the Lobster Studios. (Those are all retro paintings done in the 1950s and 60s by people on vacation who loved Maine as well) Visit the paintbynumbermuseum.Com - the creative work of a wonderful friend who gave me all the paintings from her collection. If you decide to come to El Zapato I will enjoy meeting you and if I miss you I'll likely be visiting. And you may recognize me as I often wear red converse high tops as I travel the world. Red Shoe Living is putting on your red shoes and living every moment while trying to give back. Hope to meet you!
